Child Aware is a Brisbane based counselling and psychology service providing a broad range of services including counselling, assessment, supervision and training. Child Aware provide counselling for children, young people and families. Child Aware is located in Carina and Strathpine conveniently close to public transport and major motorways. Child Aware offers a high standard of professional service, qualified and trusted staff and convenient opening hours.
Leza Sullivan and Susie Upton are the Founders and Directors of Child Aware which opened in June 2013. Both Directors are qualified psychologists with a passion for child protection and early intervention and have a strong desire to provide a welcoming environment for children, young people and their families to come and seek support. Child Aware has since grown to include 3 office locations and a team of psychologists, mental health accredited social workers, provisional psychologists, practice manager and administration team. Child Aware also provide training and supervision to provisional psychologists and sell a range of resources to professionals and families.
In 2015, Susie Upton was named Queensland Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year, an award that recognised the importance of being passionate about your work. One of Child Aware's accomplishments is the production of a board game 'All About Me' which is used in counselling with children to build rapport and has sold successfully throughout Australia to professionals working with children.
Our dedicated and qualified team of child psychologists and mental health accredited social workers are highly trained and have experience working with a diverse range of clients. All Child Aware psychologists are registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), are eligible for membership with the peak professional body, the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and undertake continuous profressional development. All Child Aware social workers are eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers and are accredited. Accredited mental health social workers are registered providers with Medicare. They have been assessed on behalf of the Commonwealth Government by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) as having specialist mental health expertise.
The mission of Child Aware is to ensure children, young people and families have access to high quality and affordable counselling and psychology services. Central to our mission is to ensure that the best interests of children and young people are prioritised. Child Aware is committed to providing evidence based psychology services that promote hope, independence, and resilience.
In October, 2017 Child Aware was named as a Psychological Therapies provider with Wesley Mission Queensland!
In September 2017, Child Aware was named as a finalist in the Queensland Mental Health Acheivement Awards. Recognising their contribution to the mental health sector in Queensland.
In 2017, Child Aware was funded by Brisbane North PHN to deliver five workshops to 90 professionals on trauma informed care. This activity was supported by funding from the Australinan Governement under the PHN program.
In 2017, Child Aware Commissioned by Brisbane North PHN to be a trauma specialist provider under Brisbane MIND4KIDS and Brisbane MIND in 2017. This activity was supported by funding from the Australinan Governement under the PHN program.
Child Aware was commissioned to develop and deliver 9 workshops Queensland wide in 2015/2016. ‘No More Tears’, an educational workshop for early childhood educators on the topic of separation anxiety.
