Assessment

Our dedicated and qualified team of child psychologists are highly trained and have experience in conducting comprehensive evidence-based educational and developmental assessment for children and adolescents. Child Aware offer a number of psychometric assessment services to assist in understanding children’s strengths and weaknesses to help understand how they learn as well as guide treatments and provide recommendations on how to support your child.

 
Who may benefit from a psychometric assessment?
  • Children who are struggling at school
  • Children who appear to be gifted in certain areas
  • Children who have particular difficulties learning their letters, or with maths, and spelling
  • Children with attention or concentration problems
  • Children you suspect may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Children who don’t seem to be meeting their full potential
  • Children you suspect may have a learning disorder
  • Children who have behavioural problems
  • Children who you suspect might have an autism spectrum disorder

Assessment

 

A psychometic assessment provides:

  • A genuine understanding of a child’s strengths and needs
  • Identification of any underlying problems or diagnosis
  • Guidance and practical strategies for parents and schools to help each child reach their full potential
  • Assesses your child's ability to achieve at school

 

 

What to expect:

 

You (parent) will need to attend an intake session (50 minutes) with the psychologist to obtain detailed information regarding the presenting issues and developmental history. Following the intake, assessment sessions will be scheduled with your child. After the completion of all assessments a feedback session (50 minutes) is scheduled with the parent to provide the results and report. This feedback session is usually scheduled for between 2-4 weeks after the completion of the assessments. 

 


 

Child Aware have a number of assessment packages that are selected based on your reason for referral or concerns. Assessments are designed to investigate the possible presence of;

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Learning Disorder (including dyslexia)
  • Intellectual Disability

Or a child's

  • School Readiness
  • Cognitive abiltity 

Following the intake session with the assessing psychologist your assessment package will be discussed to reflect your childs needs. Following this intake session costs assosicated with relevant assessments will be discussed. Assessments with a fully registered psychologist range between $1000 - $1800. Fees are payable as assessments are undertaken/pay as you go.

 

Child Aware also have a low cost assessment program for families with a health care card/experiencing genuine financial hardship. Our low cost assessments are completed by Child Aware intern psychologists who are provisionally registered with the Psychological Board of Australia and receive mandated supervision with Board Approved supervisors. Assessments with a provisionally registered psychologist are at a discounted rate.
