At Child Aware, we believe in providing an affordable service for clients with competitive fees. The current Australian Psychology Society (APS) recommended fee is $251.00 per hour. Our fee structure is as follows;
$160 – Appointments between 10am to 2pm

You do not need a referral and can access counselling simply by clicking here or giving us a call on 1300 914 318. To be eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare, a person must be referred by their GP and in some instances by another medical specialist, such as a paediatrician. Speak to your GP about your eligibility to claim these Medicare benefits.

Our online booking portal is simple to use. Click on "book online" and follow the prompts to book an appointment. You will be able to select location as well as the practitioner and see the available times. Select your prefered time and either sign in to your account or register as a new user. You can also manage your existing online bookings this way.
Medicare: Mental Health Treatment Plan
Child Aware Psychologists and Mental Health Accredited Social Workers are registered with Medicare and hold provider numbers. This means that clients with an eligible referral under a Mental Health Treatment Plan may receive a rebate for their counselling.
To obtain a Medicare rebate, a written referral from your GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is required with a current Mental Health Treatment Plan. With an eligible referral you can obtain up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. Most GPs will require you to make a long appointment to obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan - please discuss with your GP whether you and/or your child may be eligible.
Medicare: Eating Disorder Psychological Treatment
Eligible clients can now access rebates for up to 40 sessions under a referral from their GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. Please discuss with you doctor whether you or your child may be eligible.
Telepsychology Mental Health Initiative
Eligible patients in rural and remote locations with a Mental Health Treatment Plan (as above) will be able to claim rebates for video consultations through the Medicare Benefits Schedule Better Access initiative. Up to ten sessions can be provided through video conferencing. If you would like to access this service and live in a rural and remote location please contact us for more information.
Psychological Therapies (formerly ATAPS) - Brisbane South
If you hold a health care card, pension card or experience financial hardship speak to your GP about a referral under the Psychological Therapies program to Child Aware. Child Aware is an approved WMQ Psychological Therapies program provider. WMQ Psychological Therapies Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, and is managed by Brisbane South PHN. Sessions under this funding incur no out of pocket cost.
Private Health Fund
If you have private health insurance you may be able to claim a rebate. Clients are provided with a receipt at the time of payment and this can be submitted to the private health fund to receive a rebate. As each health fund and level of cover relates to different rebate allowances, each client is encouraged to discuss rebates directly with their health fund.
Victims Assist Queensland
Victim Assist Queensland provides access to services and financial assistance to help victims of violent crime recover from the act of violence, including domestic and family violence. Child Aware provide eligible clients with counselling funded by Victims Assist Queensland.
Medicare: Helping Children with Autism Initiative
Child Aware is also able to provide services under the Medicare Helping Children with Autism Initiative. Medicare items for up to four allied health diagnostic (assessment) services and for 20 relevant allied health services (in total) for eligible children up to the age of 15 (provided the treatment and management plan is in place before the age of 13). A referral must be made by a Paediatrician or a Psychiatrist for this program. The current rebate is $84.80. Please discuss with your Paediatrician or Psychiatrist to determine your eligibility.
Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) Package - Department of Social Services
The Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) package is an Australian Government initiative providing support for children aged 0 - 6 years with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their families and carers. Funding of up to $12,000 is available to children aged 0-6 years diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Children must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia, and families must apply for the funding before their child's sixth birthday. Families then have until the child turns 7 to access the funding. Sessions under this funding incur no out of pocket cost.
Child Aware is a registered provider under the NDIS. Please contact us to discuss this process.
Our psychologists are able to provided psychological services funded by Work Cover. Discuss a referral to a Child Aware psychologist with your GP.
When appointments are booked, the psychologist reserves the whole hour especially for you, and undertakes preparation for your session. We therefore ask for 24 hours notice to reschedule or cancel a session without incurring any extra fees. This policy is in place to allow us to offer the allocated time to another client who may be on a cancellation or waiting list for an appointment. A $75 fee will be charged for non-attendance or less than 24 hours cancellation of a session.
You may call our office at anytime, even after hours, as we do have an answering service that allows you to leave a message. You will also receive a confirmation text message prior to your appointment, responding to this text message lets us know if you are attending your appointment.
We understand that sometimes you may be unable to keep an appointment because of sudden illness or an unexpected personal emergency. If this happens to you, please contact us as soon as possible to explain the situation.
