Group Programs

Child Aware run a number of groups throughout the year to assist children to enhance skills learnt in individual sessions and learn new skills alongside their peers.

Groups are facilitated by highly trained psychologists or mental health accredited social workers at our Carina and Strathpine office locations. Parents are encouraged to participate and are included in the information session for the first 30 minutes of each session whilst afternoon tea is provided for the children.

Children with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP may be eligible for a rebate, reducing the out of pocket cost. The cost of the group is $60 per session (the current Medicare rebate is between $19.00 - $21.65).

See group dates below and register your interest by calling 1300 914 318 or emailing groups@childaware.com.au

The Take Action Anxiety Program

An estimated 1.3 million adult Australians will suffer from an anxiety disorder this year. About half of them may have experienced their first symptoms by the age of 11. While anxiety is a normal

part of childhood, around 12 per cent of children develop a diagnosable disorder, experiencing           fear, nervousness, and shyness, and avoiding places and activities.

Without treatment these children are at higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on

important social experiences, and experience physical complaints such as sleeplessness,

    stomach aches and headaches.

Years of psychological research tells us that a short cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) program helps anxious children cope better both socially and academically as well as avoid a possible lifetime of debilitating emotional distress. The Take Action program, targeted toward children aged 4-7 and 8-12 years.

Parenting Children with Challenging Behaviours - Strathpine

This group aims to explore the many roles your children demand you to take on as you set about helping them with their emotions and behaviour. The roles we will explore are diverse, demanding and not always visible to us as ones we need to take on, but by intentionally learning about them and having them in your parental tool box, will assist you to develop stronger relationships with the children in your life.

In keeping with the latest evidence-based research, the group has a strong emphasis on neurobiology, which basically means we seek to understand and respond to children’s emotions and behaviour (and our own as parents!) in light of what we are learning about brain development. Discussion concerning challenging behaviour you might be experiencing with children you care for will be facilitated.
