Professionals often work with a range of clients from differing backgrounds and varying levels of complexity. The demand this places on the professional is further exacerbated by the volume of paperwork and administration tasks that require completion. Likewise legal action such as subpoenas to provide files or appear in court amplifies the pressure felt by professionals and subsequently increases the effects of burnout and vicarious trauma.
Child Aware is able to offer supervision to Psychologists, provisional Psychologists, Social Workers, students, and other health professionals providing counselling/support to children, young people or families. It is usually best to discuss your supervision needs at an initial meeting, as it is important that we are able to meet your needs regarding expectations, area of expertise and required hours of supervision.
Professional development in the form of peer consultation is mandatory for Psychologists in Australia and most engage in face to face supervision on a regular basis. Our team are Board Approved Supervisors with the Psychology Board of Australia and offer cost effective supervision for the following purposes;
Professional Supervision and Peer Consultation 4+2 Internship Primary and Secondary Supervision 5+1 Internship Primary and Secondary Supervision Higher Degree Placement Supervision Working in addition to placement Registrar Program Secondary Supervision |
Child Aware also operate the Provisional Psychologist Hub. See below for a brief overview or click here to go to our website www.provisionalpsych.com.au
The provisional psychologist hub was founded by Leza Sullivan and Susie Upton, both psychologists with over 25 years of combined experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families focusing on both psychological intervention and assessment. Leza and Susie are also the founders of Child Aware, a psychology practice in Brisbane, which has grown to multiple practice locations and 30 team members. Leza and Susie are passionate about developing provisional psychologists skills, knowledge and confidence to allow them to meet the requirements of the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and ultimately obtain full registration. As Board Approved Supervisors they have supervised over 100 students, provisional psychologists, social workers and psychologists at all stages of their careers. To read more about Leza and Susie, see below.
The Provisional Psychologist Hub is an expansion on current services offered at Child Aware, that provide provisional psychologists with professional development, supervision, psychological practice, the opportunity to learn from fully registered psychologists and much more. Having both completed the 4+2 program themselves they understand how challenging it can be to obtain valuable experience and how anxiety provoking it can be in your early career.
Our psychology internship programs, which are available to psychology graduates across Australia are continually refined ensuring that our program is always innovative and consistent with PsyBA guidelines. As such you will gain support, guidance and development in a range of professional skills. The Provisional Psychologist Hub aims to provide a supportive environment, minimising the barriers of finding supervision, suitable professional development and access to psychometric assessments. We are able to guide you from the beginning steps of writing your Internship Program Plan for the PsyBA through to registration or just provide short-term access to supervision, or professional development to compliment your program.
The cost of individual supervision is $160 per hour. The Provisional Psychologist Hub has a range of memberships that include individual and/or group supervision, professional development and access to an assessment library. You can choose to pay for an individual session (e.g. 1 hour of supervision) or join one of our memberships (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus) which have heaps of included extras. Click here to find out more.
Our supervisors have a background in working with children, adolescents, adults and families across a broad range of presenting issues and sectors (private practice, non-for profit and the private sector). Areas of particular interest include psychometric assessment, counselling with children and families, child protection and working with clients who have experienced trauma (child sexual abuse and other types of harm). For more information click here or to enquire about supervision contact us at learn@provisionalpsych.com.au
Child Aware have a large number of Psychometric Assessments available for loan for fully qualified psychologists, and for provisional psychologists completing the 4+2 or 5+1 pathway. For more information on the tests we have available or to enquire about costs please contact us on 1300 914 318 or email learn@provisionalpsych.com.au.
Our Platinum Plus program includes work experience at our Brisbane offices. Our training program is designed for those psychologists pursuing the 4+2 Internship or 5+1 Internship pathways. This program is intended to help new graduates obtain provisional registration as a psychologist and for those already provisionally registered meet their competency requirements. The fees cover all components of your 4+2 and 5+1 program including supervision and professional development, and access to and experience with psychometric assessment. Our program provides unparalleled support from beginning (assisting you with paperwork to submit to AHPRA) to end (ensuring you tick your competencies and develop your skills, knowledge and confidence as working as a provisional psychologist).
Child Aware have consistently found that provisional psychologists find it difficult to obtain direct client contact with children and adolescents, and meet the requirements of their intervention and assessment competency. If you are wanting to obtain registration or are finding it difficult to meet your competencies please contact us to discuss if this program will meet your needs.
The Program
Our Training Program offers internships/placements 3 months - 2 years in duration in our practice over 1, 2.5 or 4 days per week.
The program will provide you with direct client work experience (intervention, assessment and/or group work) and non-direct client work (assessment scoring, report writing and case notes). In addition, Child Aware will provide you with 1 hour of supervision for every 17 hours of work with us in line with the Board requirements for the supervised internship program.
The clients you will work with often vary in presenting issue but can include anxiety, trauma symptoms, and behaviour difficulties (just to name a few). Services are provided to clients who would otherwise be unable to access support within a private practice (e.g. due to afforability or accessibility) and as such reduces barriers to help seeking. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience working in a child counselling service.
Fees
All of these options are able to be extended for longer time periods. For those who commit to a 12 month (44 weeks) or 2 year (88 weeks) internship program all of the requirements of supervised practice will be met (e.g professional development, supervision, client hours, assessment competencies etc (all inclusive program). Please contact us for information on costs of these long term programs.
Your fee includes; supervision (group and individual), observations (to meet the boards requirements), opportunities to observe other psychologists, access to a library of assessments (able to practice with and administer), use of internal resources, ongoing support in the role (e.g. reading assessment reports, templates for reports/case notes, debriefing, weekly meetings around progress), and internal professional development. You only work with as many clients as you feel comfortable and we tailor the program to meet the needs of the individual (i.e. you will have your own individualised plan based around building your confidence and meeting your competencies). This program is designed to provide comprehensive support and guidance to provisional psychologists undertaking the 4+2 and 5+1 pathways.
